The valedictorian of Faith Lutheran Senior High School’s Class of 2023 and a top 10 classmate will attend Ivy League colleges next fall and many others will attend top universities nationwide.
Faith Lutheran listed the top 25 students in its graduating class in a special annual magazine released in May by its faculty and staff. All of the listed students plan to attend U.S. universities; one will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Willem Maniago, who topped his class, will attend Princeton University, one of eight schools in the Ivy League. He was a National Merit semifinalist who scored a perfect 36 on the ACT test. He was also an Advanced Placement Scholar of Distinction a Coca-Cola Scholars semifinalist and Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth-High Honors.
Maniago said he was pleased to pursue his passions at Faith Lutheran, including STEM Academy, Theatre Conservatory, and Varsity Swim Team. He’s interested in studying the intersection of environmentalism, medicine, public policy and health.
The class’s other Ivy League-bound student is Elyssa Bahr, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania. Bahr’s list of volunteering, interning, and accomplishments exceeds 15 pages; she has affinity for guitar, tennis and visual art. Her favorite classes were honors biology and Advanced Placement biology; she’s graduating from our Fine Arts Conservatory, Flight Academy, and STEM Academy.
Salutatorian Hady Damaj will attend the University of California, Los Angeles. He was varsity cross-country captain, and a graduate of the STEM Academy and Spanish Honor Society and was in Green Thumb Club and ViSA. He said he’ll further his studies in college, with his eye on possibly attending medical school.
